Tehran Lube Oil Refinery
Tehran Lube Oil Refinery is one of Iranol’s refineries which is located in Tehran-Qom old road next to the Tehran Oil Refinery and has been designed by LUMMUS Co based on Texaco knowhow. Refinery capacity is about 210,000 cubic meter base oil product per year. This plant is the most advanced and well equipped unit in IRAN. Iranol has grown to become one of the leading producers in Iran, Just for very well equipped De-Asphalting and also Hydro-Finishing units. Having unique hydro-finishing unit in the region enables this company to produce a variety of high quality industrial and automotive engine lubricants. IRANOL Co is leading at production of base oils, industrial and automotive oils, slack wax, extracts and petrolatum. This company is the only manufacturer of Bright Stock in Iran. Hydraulic oils, industrial gear oils, turbine oils, compressor oils, circulating oils and heat transfer oils are some of the industrial oils of this company. Since input feeds contain a variety of impurities, excess factors must be removed from the feedstock in each of this plant’s units. In this regard Tehran Lube Oil plant consists of:
-
De-Asphalting Unit for manufacturing Bright Stock :
This unit has been designed and built for De-Asphalting the vacuum residuum of Tehran Oil Refinery in lube processing and has a capacity of 4550 barrel per day. In order to improve the quality of base oil, asphaltenes must be removed from vacuum bottom during lube processing by a simple physical extraction process. Liquid propane is the most commonly used solvent to de-asphalt the vacuum residuum. The outputs of this unit contain two materials: PDA Tar and DAO (De-Asphalted Oil) PDA Tar is one of byproducts and widely used in bitumen industries. DAO is the main product of this unit which used as feed for Furfural Extraction Unit and Bright Stock oil production.
-
Furfural Aromatic Extraction Unit:
Aromatics have a negative impact on the properties of base oils and their removal improves the quality. Solvent refining based on Texaco technology for aromatics removal is being employed by Iranol. Feed capacity of unit is about 10,000 barrels per day in this plant Furfural use as solvent in Aromatic Extraction Unit. This unit’s feed stocks are different grades of lube cuts and DAO which are supplied from De-Asphalting unit tanks. The products of this unit are: extract and Raffinate. Extract is one of byproducts and used in carbon black plants, rubber industries and as fuel. Raffinate is the main product of this unit which used as feed for De-Waxing unit. By removal of aromatics, base stock VI and resistance to oxidation, thermal stability and surface tension increases and volatility will decrease.
-
De-Waxing Unit :
The main purpose of De-Waxing unit is to adjust the pour point of base oil. With removing waxes from Raffinate by Texaco solvent De-Waxing process at low temperature which uses methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and toluene as solvent base stock low temperature properties increases. After De-Waxing operation the pour point of base oil will be reduced (lower than -6 ⁰C). The outputs of this unit contains two materials: WFO (Wax Free Oil) and Slack Wax. Slack Wax is another byproduct and are using in different industries such as candle, packaging, hot-melt adhesive, rubber, make up, man-made wood and similar industries. WFO is the main product of this unit which can be used as feed for Hydro-Finishing unit or directly to blending unit.
-
Hydro-Finishing Unit :
Hydro-Finishing of lube oil stocks reduces the amount of sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen metals and olefins to low levels. The non-hydrocarbon components is hydrogenated and subsequently removed by stripping and olefins are saturated to paraffins and naphtenes. The function of this unit is to obtain satisfactory color, oxidation stability, and other desirable characteristics for finished lube oil base stock.
-
Tank Yard :
Feed stocks, products and byproducts has been storing in storage tanks located at refinery tank yard. These tanks have been designed in different sizes and capacities and most of them are equipped with low pressure steam coils or suction heaters. This is because of the heating coils keep materials warm, protect fluidity of them and also facilitate the pumping and transferring operations. With using coils, base oils temperature brought to about 60 °C in the tanks.
-
Blending and Canning Units :
Different automotive and industrial lubricants in accordance with latest rules and standards are producing by adding additives in Blending unit. All finished lubricants carefully examined in fully equipped in house laboratory with specialized testing facilities and after receiving approval, finished products are packaged in canning & packaging unit. Our lab has ISO 17025 certificate.
