Abadan Lube Oil Refinery
Abadan Lube Oil Refinery is one of IRANOL’s refineries which is located in Arvand free zone, south of Iran in Khuzestan province. Abadan Lube Oil Refinery constructed about sixty-five years ago, starting in 1946 with the installation and commissioning in 1951. The refinery designed by Badger based on Texaco know how and units include furfural unit, MEK De waxing unit and clarifying by clay contact unit (CCU) for annual production of 25000 cubic meters of group I base oil. Abadan Lube oil refinery halted after beginning of imposed war and reconstruction of the refinery started in early 1990 (1368) and production resumed in 1991 (1369). The capacity of the refinery at the time of re-start up was 25 thousand cubic meters of base oil annually and now thanks to several de-bottlenecking executed in the refinery, production capacity of refinery reached to 65 thousand cubic meters of light base oil or 45 thousand cubic meters of heavy base oil. By further developing projects and eliminating existing bottlenecks reaching to a capacity of about 100 thousand cubic meters is not unexpectable. By proper maintenance and performing scheduled overhaul, now the capacity of furfural unit reached to 2100 barrels per day with 74% yield and viscosity index at least 94 with maximum product color 2.5 from about 1150 barrels per day of capacity with an efficiency of 70% and 87 viscosity index and color 3. MDU unit capacity from 850 barrel per day with 70% efficiency and product pour point +3⁰C reached to 1650 barrels per day with an efficiency of 78% and pour point -3⁰C. It is noteworthy that increase in production lead to saving energy as much as 25%.
